Connecting Research, Leadership, and Community Action to Build Arizona’s Brain Economy
By the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance (ABCA)
What if Arizona’s greatest economic resource isn’t found in our land, technology, or infrastructure, but in the brains of our people?
We invest billions in buildings, highways, technology, and artificial intelligence. But how much are we investing in the very human asset responsible for creating, managing, and improving all of these innovations?
That asset is brain capital.
The Arizona Brain Capital Alliance (ABCA) is proud to announce its launch as a statewide, nonpartisan initiative dedicated to strengthening brain health and brain skills across Arizona.
Operating under the nonprofit Lyrics ‘N Leadership Institute for Brain Health, ABCA brings together businesses, educators, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, and community organizations to help Arizona participate in one of the most important emerging global movements: the brain economy.
Our mission is to inform, empower, connect, and equip Arizona organizations and communities with the latest brain capital research, resources, strategic partnerships, and evidence-based practices.
What Is Brain Capital, and Why Does Arizona Need It?
Brain capital combines two essential human assets:
- Brain Health: The cognitive, emotional, social, and neurological well-being that allows people to function and flourish throughout life.
- Brain Skills: The creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities needed to succeed in a changing world.
Together, these assets influence educational achievement, workforce readiness, innovation, productivity, healthy aging, and quality of life.
For Arizona, the implications are significant.
Our state is experiencing population growth, workforce transformation, rapid technological expansion, and increasing demands on healthcare and education systems.
At the same time, artificial intelligence is changing how people learn, create, communicate, and work.
The question is no longer whether Arizona should invest in brain capital. The question is how quickly we can bring this knowledge into our communities.
From the United Nations to Arizona: Three Years of Global Learning
The creation of ABCA reflects years of engagement with the growing international brain capital movement.
ABCA Executive Director Genein Letford, M.Ed., an educator, brain capital advocate, and founder of CAFFE Strategies, has attended the United Nations Brain Days events in 2024, 2025, and 2026, connecting with international leaders advancing brain health, neuroscience, public policy, education, and economic development.
These experiences helped shape the vision for an Arizona alliance that translates global conversations into local action.
2024: Brain Health Becomes a Global Development Conversation
During the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Global Brain Coalition helped organize discussions focused on neuroscience and brain health across the lifespan.
The events brought together organizations including the European Brain Council, Brain Capital Alliance, Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative, and other international partners.
The central message was becoming increasingly clear: brain health cannot remain solely a healthcare conversation. It must become an educational, economic, and public policy priority.
For Arizona, this means recognizing that early childhood development, school experiences, workforce conditions, and healthy aging are all connected to our state’s long-term prosperity.
2025: Brain Capital Moves Toward Global Action
At the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Brain Days expanded conversations around brain capital, research, innovation, youth mental health, and the economic value of healthy brains.
The European Brain Council recognized Genein Letford and her colleagues for contributing interactive, brain-friendly activities, movement, and presentations to the international gathering.
The discussions emphasized the need to connect neuroscience with real-world policies, investment, and community programs.
For ABCA, the takeaway was powerful: Arizona needs a coordinated network that can bring these ideas to schools, businesses, nonprofits, and local governments.
2026: Building the Global Brain Economy
In September 2026, the United Nations Brain Days at UNGA81 continued the movement toward greater international coordination, including discussions about a potential United Nations resolution recognizing brain health as a global priority.
Genein also participated in the Global Brain Economy Summit in New York, engaging with leaders advancing brain capital across healthcare, education, workforce development, research, and the arts.
These conversations reinforced the importance of connecting brain science with practical community strategies.
They also highlighted a critical opportunity for Arizona: to become a leader in Brain Capital Arts, recognizing how music, visual arts, dance, theater, and creative expression contribute to brain health and the development of essential human skills.
The global movement is accelerating. Arizona must be ready to contribute.
A Global Movement With Economic Implications
The launch of ABCA comes as international organizations increasingly recognize brain capital as essential infrastructure for economic prosperity.
The Global Brain Economy Initiative (GBEI) is advancing efforts to connect brain health and brain skills with economic growth, innovation, workforce performance, and societal resilience.
Building on recommendations from the World Economic Forum and McKinsey Health Institute, GBEI is working to strengthen research, investment, measurement, and coordination across sectors.
Its economic analysis highlights the potential for brain capital investments to generate trillions of dollars in global economic benefits by 2050.
The message is clear: investing in human intelligence must become just as important as investing in artificial intelligence.
ABCA shares this vision and seeks to help Arizona translate these global developments into practical opportunities for our state’s communities and organizations.
What Will the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance Do?
ABCA will serve as a statewide connector, convener, and resource hub, helping organizations move from awareness to meaningful action.
Our priorities include:
- Research and Resources: Gather and share emerging brain capital research, Brain Capital Index findings, and developments related to artificial intelligence and cognitive health.
- Statewide Convenings: Organize conferences, summits, leadership retreats, and community conversations connecting Arizona’s brain capital advocates.
- Partnerships and Visibility: Support and promote organizations incorporating brain capital strategies into their programs, policies, and organizational cultures.
- Cross-Sector Collaboration: Bring together leaders from education, business, healthcare, government, the arts, and community organizations to help shape Arizona’s brain capital strategy.
- National and Global Representation: Connect Arizona with other states, countries, researchers, and institutions advancing the brain economy.
Arizona’s Brain Capital Future Starts With Collaboration
No single school, company, hospital, nonprofit, or government agency can build a brain-healthy state alone.
But together, we can create a coordinated movement that brings the latest research into everyday life.
Imagine Arizona becoming known not only for its technological innovation and economic growth, but also for its commitment to developing healthy brains, creative thinkers, resilient communities, and a thriving workforce.
Imagine every child learning how to care for their brain, every employer recognizing brain health as an economic asset, and every community having access to resources that support cognitive flourishing throughout life.
That is the future ABCA is working to advance.

The international brain capital movement has created extraordinary momentum. Now it is time to turn that momentum into meaningful action here at home.
