How World Brain Day 2026 Helped Launch a Statewide Movement for Brain Health, Brain Skills, and Economic Prosperity

By the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance (ABCA)

What if Arizona’s greatest investment wasn’t in technology, infrastructure, or buildings, but in the brains of the people who make all those things possible?

On July 22, 2026, World Brain Day, that question took center stage at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix during the inaugural Brain Capital at the Capitol event.

The gathering brought together advocates and leaders from education, healthcare, business, government, research, and community organizations to explore an emerging concept with enormous implications for Arizona’s future: brain capital.

More than an awareness event, Brain Capital at the Capitol represented an important step toward building a statewide movement that recognizes brain health and brain skills as essential resources for Arizona’s economic prosperity and quality of life.

It also helped lay the foundation for the creation of the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance (ABCA).

Why Brain Capital Matters to Arizona

Brain capital is the combination of two essential human assets:

  • Brain Health: Our cognitive, emotional, social, and neurological well-being throughout life.
  • Brain Skills: Our creativity, critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, resilience, and problem-solving abilities.

Together, these assets influence how we learn, work, innovate, connect with others, and contribute to society.

As Arizona continues to grow, we face important challenges related to workforce readiness, early childhood development, mental health, healthy aging, and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.

Brain capital connects these issues under one powerful idea: A healthy economy requires healthy brains and strong human skills.

This is especially important as Arizona responds to the growing impact of Alzheimer’s disease and other brain health conditions while preparing its workforce for an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Bringing the Global Brain Capital Movement to the Arizona Capitol

The inspiration for Brain Capital at the Capitol grew from years of engagement with the international brain capital movement.

Genein Letford, M.Ed., founder of CAFFE Strategies and Executive Director of the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance, participated in the 2024 and 2025 United Nations Brain Days gatherings, connecting with researchers, policymakers, and international advocates advancing brain health and brain skills.

These global conversations reinforced an important realization: Arizona needed a coordinated effort to bring emerging brain capital research and resources into its communities.

Brain Capital at the Capitol was an opportunity to begin that conversation at the state level.

The event emphasized that brain health is not exclusively a medical issue. It is also an educational, economic, workforce, and community development priority.

From preschool classrooms to corporate boardrooms, from artistic experiences to healthy aging initiatives, brain capital influences every stage of life.

Building Connections Across Arizona

One of the central goals of Brain Capital at the Capitol was to connect individuals and organizations that might not traditionally work together but share a common interest in human flourishing.

Educators understand the importance of attention, memory, curiosity, and creative thinking.

Healthcare professionals understand the importance of prevention, mental well-being, and cognitive health.

Business leaders recognize the growing value of innovation, adaptability, leadership, and problem-solving.

Artists and community organizations understand how creative expression, relationships, and meaningful experiences contribute to healthy development.

And policymakers have the opportunity to support systems that strengthen these essential human resources.

Brain Capital at the Capitol brought these conversations together under one shared vision: a stronger, healthier, and more innovative Arizona.

The event also contributed to efforts to increase public awareness of brain capital through government engagement and recognition of Brain Capital Awareness Month.

From a Capitol Gathering to a Statewide Alliance

Perhaps the most significant outcome of Brain Capital at the Capitol was the momentum it created for establishing the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance.

The event demonstrated the importance of having a statewide organization dedicated to connecting research, leadership, and practical action.

Operating under the nonprofit Lyrics ‘N Leadership Institute for Brain Health, ABCA was developed as a nonpartisan, cross-sector initiative to inform, empower, connect, and equip Arizona organizations and communities.

The Alliance focuses on five priorities:

  1. Research and Education: Sharing emerging brain capital research, Brain Capital Index data, and evidence-based practices.
  2. Statewide Events and Convenings: Bringing together leaders through conferences, summits, retreats, and community conversations.
  3. Organizational Partnerships: Supporting businesses, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations that integrate brain capital strategies into their work.
  4. Cross-Sector Collaboration: Connecting diverse perspectives to help shape Arizona’s brain capital priorities and strategies.
  5. National and Global Engagement: Representing Arizona in the expanding brain capital movement and building relationships with other states and international organizations.

The Alliance will help turn the awareness generated at the Capitol into sustained collaboration throughout Arizona.

Why This Movement Matters Now

We are entering an era in which human brainpower is becoming one of the most important economic assets.

Artificial intelligence is transforming industries, while increasing concerns about cognitive health, mental well-being, and workforce readiness demand greater attention.

At the international level, initiatives such as the Global Brain Economy Initiative are highlighting the economic importance of investing in brain health and brain skills.

Arizona has an opportunity to participate in this transformation by recognizing brain capital as a resource that must be developed, protected, and strengthened throughout life.

This means supporting healthy early childhood development, expanding access to arts and creative experiences, encouraging brain-healthy workplaces, promoting preventive brain health education, and helping communities understand the importance of lifelong cognitive well-being.

It also means making sure that the benefits of brain capital research reach communities across Arizona, not just universities, research institutions, or major corporations.

The Next Chapter: Building Arizona’s Brain Capital Future

Brain Capital at the Capitol was not intended to be a one-day conversation.

It was a starting point.

The relationships, ideas, and momentum generated on World Brain Day 2026 helped establish a foundation for continued statewide engagement through the Arizona Brain Capital Alliance.

Our vision is an Arizona where brain health and brain skills are recognized as essential to educational achievement, workforce development, economic innovation, and community well-being.

We envision a future where children understand how to care for their brains, educators have access to brain-based learning strategies, employers invest in the cognitive well-being of their teams, and community organizations incorporate brain capital into their programs.

Most importantly, we envision an Arizona where brain capital is not simply a research topic but a shared statewide priority.
